All academic buildings have been renovated to allow for:
Maximize use of sunshine using effecient windows
TCC is a member of the Efficient Windows Collaborative (EWC) and has installed over 5,000 new energy-efficient windows across the entire campus. The benefits include significant energy and cost savings, improved comfort, less condensation, increased light and view, reduced fading and lower HVAC costs.
Project completion: January 2008
Energy-saving automatic lighting
An electronically ballasted lighting control system was installed in all of the academic buildings. The new lighting system is designed to exploit all major
control strategies, including scheduling, daylighting, and lumen maintenance. The automatic operation has yielded a lighting energy savings of approximately 50%!
Project completion: March 2008
Automatic water facilities
As in student housing, most of the toilets, faucets, showers and even urinals in academic buildings across campus have been retrofitted to more efficient, low-flow models.
Project completion: December 2007
Solar energy
The solar project was a collaborative effort among TCC's Physical Plant Department and the state of California's Environmental Council. The solar panels were
installed by SolarWonder, Inc, of Tahoe, CA.
Project completion: November 2007
