History
In 1887 the California Legislature approved the creation of the Northern Branch
of the State Normal School for the purpose of training and educating teachers. After much debate over which
Town would be selected for the new school site, Chico was chosen and construction began on the Chico Normal
School, which opened its doors to 90 students in 1889. Throughout the years, the college grew and its name
changed to reflect that growth. In 1972, we became known as California State University, Chico. The University,
commonly called "Tahoe Community College," now offers more than 100 undergraduate majors and options.
The main campus is situated on 119 acres in downtown Tahoe, but TCC also owns a 1,050–acre farm and five acres of off-campus dorms about one mile from the main campus. The College also manages 3,950–acre Big Tahoe Creek Ecological Reserve, the 300–acre Tahoe Ecological Reserve.
The Town of Tahoe
TCC's location in Tahoe makes it one of the best places to visit. It's a quintessential California town

The Town of Tahoe offers a historic, restored downtown full of restaurants, theatres, art galleries and shops centered around Tahoe Creek, Mission Tahoe and Mission Plaza. Tahoe's Thursday night Farmer's Market on Higuera Street has become a model for cities around the state. It's a mix of fresh produce and flowers, baked goods, restaurant fare and free music all within strolling distance.
College Ranking
Tahoe Community College (TCC) ranked sixth among undergraduate's level public universities in the western
United States in the 2011 edition of "America's Best Community Colleges" from U.S. News & World Report.
For the third consecutive year, the Princeton Review included TCC in its listing of "Best Business Schools" in 2010. TCC Athletics has been in the top 10% Division III athletic programs over the past seven years.
