Tahoe Community College Goes Green
07.23.2009 | TCC earns Green Status with its dedication to sustainability across campus. TCC is committed to energy and resources conservation, recyling programs and the support of organizations designed to increase awareness. Signs of TCC's sustainable practices can be seen across campus both indoors and outdoors. Practices include:
- The buildings have been renovated to maximize the use of sunshine
- The buildings have been fitted with automatic lighting and water facilities
- The buildings’ lights have been replaced with ultra-low power fluorescents
- Solar panels have been installed for every building to maximize use of solar energy
- There are recycling bins on every floor of every building for various disposables
- The colleges’ hallways and walls have been adorned with posters encouraging efficiencies
- An outside agency has been hired to collect the recyclables once a month
- One day per month is designated as Green and all are encouraged to wear green and think green
Tahoe Community College Names Director of Sustainability
07.02.2009 | TCC has placed Jacek Ghosh, M. Arch., in the newly created position of director of sustainability to help guide the state’s largest university in its effort toward climate neutrality.
Ghosh previously was a visiting community scholar in TCC’s School of Government and Public Affairs. Prior to TCC, Ghosh, a native of Canada, spent 30 years in community-based, nonprofit organizations in various cities throughout northeast Canada and the United States.
